Glommets

What are Glommets you ask? Glommets are a cross between gloves & mittens. They are great for anyone who works or plays in the outdoors during cold weather.
They are hand knit from 100% wool, so you can wash them in cold water only but no dryer or you will have a very small glommet when you are done ;)
When the flap is down you will have 2 layers of wool to keep your fingers very warm :)
The cuff by your wrist is aprox 3", it's enough to go past the cuff of most coats. It will help to stop the drafts from going up your sleeve.  :)
The first ones I made with a slit in the inside of the thumb. That way you could leave it in or out.
The rest so far all have the slit closed and the top of the thumb open. Either way your thumb will be warm :)

I'm making some for my husbands hunting buddies for Christmas. My son is the one wearing these to see how they fit. His glove size would be an X-large so there would fit almost anyone.
Last year I made them wool sock which they loved. If I have time I will make them another pair.

Here's a better close up. I do need to chart it & add instructions in case I ever want to make another one.
The shawl is very wide. When you swing it around to the front is has 2 buttons. It fits as more of a poncho type shawl

This is a Christmas gift for my mil. I had to have my son put it one so I could get it all in the picture. He was ok with it as long as I didn't show his face lol

I was taught to knit by my older sister. Just the long tail cast on, knit & purl. The rest was self taught. I wanted to knit my husband a sweater lol. Huge project for a new knitter. Needless to say it didn't turn out so well.
I then switched to afghans, I still have the first one that I tackled ( I think) it had a fake fisherman's cable in it. I hadn't yet mastered the cables so that was all I could do.
A few years ago I went to a Mitchael's knitting a thon. They didn't really have all that much just a few ladies demonstrating the niffy knitter & a knitting contest. We were all given a pair of needles & were given a few min. to see how much we could knit in a given amount of time. Winner would be given a gift basket with yarn & a nifty knitter. The knitter is now at my sisters ;)
There was also a lady that was showing different stitches. And she knew cables :) She gave me a crash course & I went gun hoe on it.  I don't have many pictures of what I have made other than what is below. I sold a lot of hats & mittens in a craft fair. I do have a picture of the shawl that I am giving to my mil this year for Christmas. It was inspired by a pattern in a mag. The originally was knitted in bulky yarn and was really simple. I wanted more so I did my own design.
For some reason this post isn't letting me post a picture. I'll have to keep trying

Another gloomy day

I'm beginning to think that we won't have an Indian summer this year. This is the 2nd day in a row that it has rained & we have had high winds. They said that the waves on the lake were over 12' high. That's bad. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near those.
Still working on some gloves for gifts. Once they are finished I promise to post a pic of them, along with a ton more that I have taken. I'm rally awful at posting them on line. At lest they are on my camera lol

Spinning challenge

Yes this is truley a challenge to me.
I wanted to learn how to spin for the longest time. I actually bought a kit that had a dvd, fiber & a spindle in it. Needless to sy I hated the spindle, the dvd wouldn't work so I jsut gave up the idea of spinning.
A few months ago I went to the Midwest Masters. It was sponserd by the local yarn store in Oshkosh. I went to see the store and ended up buying a new spindle which I love. :)
Since then I have entered into a month long challenge to spin as much as you can in one month. I was late starting but Iv'e got a day & a half of work done. This is what I have so far.
The alpaca is from Julie Weir farms. She does a spin a bag get a bag of alpaca.
This is what I have so far today

A new bag

This is a new pattern that I did. If I were to make this bag again, I would put another round of the pattern in it. It does however let you put needles in flat ;)
